Mardi Himal Climbing Overview
Mardi Himal 5587m/18,330ft is located in the Annapurna region along side the holy mountain of Fishtail or Mt. Machhapuchhare. As the crow flies it is less than fifteen miles north of Pokhara. It is the lowest and perhaps the least climbed or visited of the trekking peaks in Nepal. The Mardi Himal Trek is a newly opened route and hidden treasure in the Annapurna region. The main climbing route ascends the East face over snow terrain passing a col at 5200m.
The caravan route takes you from Kathmandu (1400m/4,600ft) to Pokhara (822m/2697ft), then onto Lwang (1100m/36081.ft), Siding (1,280m/4200ft,), Low Camp (3,150m/10335ft.), and Mardi Himal Base camp (4,500m/14763ft).

Good to Know
Satori Adventures and Expedition aims at giving proper information to many travelers, trekkers and climbers who have some confusion regarding the booking process of the trip in Nepal. Satori Adventures therefore desires to provide guideline for the first-time visitors or travelers so that they can comfortably start the process to book the selected package legally. Before starting the booking process we always advise our trekkers, travelers and climbers to intelligently check whether the company is genuine and whether they are fully safe to travel in the company’s guidance. We ask them to be acquainted with the company they want book their holiday trip with. Is the company genuine and authorized from Government of Nepal, Office of the Company Registrar, Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Nepal Rastra Bank ‒Central Bank of Nepal (authorized for foreign currency), Permanent Account Number (PAN), and the Department of Cottage Small Industries). Are they financially secured and environmentally conscious? We advise them to make sure about these formalities because there are some companies in Nepal that have been running business without abiding by the rules and regulation of the Government. Some companies were once registered but by now their licenses have already been expired and yet they have providing the services illegally.
On many occasions, Government of Nepal and Trekking Agency Association of Nepal have found that many foreigners’ tour operators, NGOs and INGOs have been involved in directly operating tours, trekking, and mountaineering holiday adventures without having government license and abiding by the Government rules. It has been also found that many individuals, freelance guides and porters have been arranging trips illegally by creating their own personal website. We have observed that many trekkers and climbers face a host of problems once they arrive in Kathmandu as they lack adequate information. Many of them file complaints to Government of Nepal and Trekking Agency Association of Nepal for legal action such as the refund of the advanced payment. There is hardly any justice given to the cheated clients. Thus, so as to prevent all these probable problems we request our travelers to check the company before booking any trip to the Himalayas.

Mardi Himal Climbing FAQs
A mountain cannot be labeled as entirely ‘safe’ or ‘unsafe’ on its own. However, in general terms, there are few factors to consider for safety measures such as altitude of the peak, crevasses, avalanche risk, serac danger, exposure in higher altitudes, and rescue possibilities. The terrain and route to the peak also make some differences.
If we check these parameters, Mardi Himal can rank comparatively safe peak for beginners. This peak has less objective risks.
Mardi Himal climbing from a trek to a famous Gurung village of Lwang-Ghalel in Kaski region, and then to the base camp. Up to Siding village there is a settlement, and then off to Base Camp at 4,500 m (14,763ft). High Camp is located at 4,700 m (15,420 ft) approximately.
Altitude of campsite can vary ±50-70 m while finding suitable and safe location.
As mentioned above, Mardi Himal and other 6,000 m peaks are not easy climbs in the Himalayas as conditions are different here from your home country. Many of our clients attempting these climbs are cyclists, runners, and fitness enthusiasts. To prepare your body, it is recommended to follow a 2-3 months training plan before the expedition. Focus on cardiovascular exercises such as running, cycling, swimming, and stair climbing.
If you are thinking of just climb days, it is three to four days’ task from Base camp to summit and then descend. If your curiosity is for whole trip days, our program is of 15 days starting and ending in Kathmandu combined with Annapurna circuit trek. 2-4 days for your travel to Kathmandu and return to your home should be added depending upon your location. So, in total it can be 16-18 days.
Satori Adventures’ representative will be waiting you at the airport with your placard. Before you meet us, you are required to collect your luggage, clear immigration and customs, and proceed to arrival terminal. Airport and arrival terminal is small in Kathmandu, and you can easily find a person holding a placard with your name. We then transfer you to your pre-booked Hotel, and all other services included as per agreed itinerary.
Mardi Himal is not demanding high-altitude climb in the Himalayas, so climbers with certain medical conditions need to be cautious. If you have chronic heart or lung conditions, severe asthma, high blood pressure, or a previous history of altitude sickness, you should consult your doctor and obtain medical clearance before attempting the climb. You may prepare for physical fitness well, have more days to acclimatize, and the most important of all, inform us of your medical conditions honestly in advance.
Spring (April-May) is considered the best season for climbing Himalayan peaks. By these months, fierce winter winds ease, the monsoon rains are still away, and compressed winter snow creates a more solid and reliable climbing surface. Longer sunny days’ and warmer temperatures lessen the danger of frostbite, and cold. Clearer visibility, lighter snowfall, and increased stability in the snow-surface make this season ideal for a safer and more successful ascent.
Our high-altitude climbing Sherpa guides have achieved many 6,000 m, 7,000 m, and 8,000 m Himalayan peaks and have excellent safety records. They possess deep knowledge of weather patterns, route of the summit, and rescue procedures, along with strong leadership and communication skills. They are well-known in the mountain community for their excellent coordination with other expedition companies and are highly respected figures in mountain tourism. Their professionalism, patience, and respect toward every climber make them among the most trusted leaders on the mountain.
Satori Adventures will provide a thick quality pad for use in base camp. If you have your own sleeping pad - foam pads generally work best, but some clients prefer air mattresses it will be comfortable for you.
Yes, we strongly recommend using high quality, high-altitude mountaineering boots. The summit day involves snow, ice, and cold temperatures, especially in the early morning. A double-layer mountaineering boot (such as La Sportiva G2, Scarpa Phantom 6000, Mammut Nordwand 6000 or similar) provides better insulation in freezing temperatures, excellent crampon compatibility, and good ankle support which ease your climb.
